Representatives from the Market Surveillance Authorities of CEFTA member countries recently toured our Laboratory Center as part of the EU4Business project: Fostering a Common Regional Market through Quality Infrastructure and E-commerce.
This initiative, backed by the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, is executed by the German Society for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH). The project aims to bolster economic integration among CEFTA members by supporting the Common Regional Market Action Plan, focusing on quality infrastructure and e-commerce. It strives to assist CEFTA countries in enhancing their quality infrastructure systems in accordance with EU standards. The ultimate goal is to enable the unrestricted movement of industrial goods, ensuring fair competition and protecting consumer rights through an improved market surveillance system.
Product compliance with technical requirements is vital to ensure they meet the essential specifications outlined by EU legislation. Our Laboratory Center, particularly the EMC and Safety Laboratory, has been selected to test products identified as potentially non-compliant with EU directives and regulations. As part of this cooperation, a two-day study visit was organized to enhance the expertise of Market Surveillance Authority representatives in conducting compliance assessments of electrical products. This visit provided inspectors with the opportunity to discuss testing relevant to the safety requirements of electrical products, the use of harmonized standards, evaluation of test results, and reporting protocols. The experience gained from this study visit will support informed decision-making regarding the compliance and safety of electrical products with the technical requirements set out in the applicable standards.
