Operational and investment highlights

KONČAR – Electrical Engineering Institute has maintained stable and positive operations despite increasing challenges in power engineering and transport. Our economic growth is fuelled by exceptional R&D services, cutting-edge laboratories, and competitive advanced technological solutions rooted in ICT.
We are deeply involved in R&D, testing, supervision, and providing expertise across numerous KONČAR Group projects, playing a vital role in developing essential electronic and energy components. Beyond supporting our Group companies, our experts provide development and testing services to customers worldwide.
We participate in the research, development, testing, supervision, and expert assessment of numerous KONČAR Group projects, and we play an important role in the development of key electrical and power engineering components. Beyond supporting Group companies, our experts provide development and testing services to clients on the global market.
Revenue from diagnostic and field testing continues to grow, as does revenue from Laboratory Centre services. Our most significant export products and services include laboratory testing of high-voltage equipment, monitoring systems for transformers and conductors, monitoring systems for rotating machines, and development services in the field of safety-critical embedded computer systems. Our sales revenue is generated primarily through testing, certification, and diagnostic services, our own products, and research and development.
We operate exclusively with our own funds and are not exposed to interest rate, credit, or liquidity risks. Our current assets significantly exceed our current liabilities, with a substantial share of current assets held in financial assets and cash — which, together with outstanding obligations after the close of the business year, guarantees stable operations going forward.
We continuously invest in the modernisation of our facilities and new equipment. One of the most significant investments in recent years was the completion of the new Laboratory for Large Electrical Drives and Machines – LAVESP, which was brought into operation in 2023.
We are continuing to expand our capacity, and in 2026, we are bringing into operation the new Laboratory for Large Electrical Drives and Machines – LAVESP 2 in Bedekovčina, an investment worth more than €22 million. The centrepiece of the new facility is a high-voltage laboratory with a total enclosed testing area of 2,700 m² and a height of 28 metres. The interior of the laboratory is divided into four testing zones. In addition to the enclosed area, the laboratory also features an outdoor testing area dedicated to PQ (pre-qualification) testing.
The laboratory enables testing at alternating voltage (AC) up to 1,200 kV, direct voltage (DC) up to 1,600 kV, lightning impulse voltage (LI) up to ±3,600 kV, and switching impulse voltage (SI) from +1,800 kV to −2,400 kV. This makes it possible to test HVDC cables with a rated voltage of up to U₀ = 640 kV, as well as components for HVDC transmission systems and other high-voltage power equipment.
Alongside this new laboratory, we are already moving ahead with the next phase of investment, planning further expansion of testing capacity — also at the Bedekovčina site.
We continuously invest in the modernisation of existing laboratories, new equipment procurement, software development, capital maintenance of equipment and buildings, employee training, and licensing and software maintenance.
